What to Clean Between Biweekly Cleanings in Philadelphia

Between two visits you keep the surface layer: dishes, laundry, spills and the daily crumbs. A visit does the repeatable room tasks the checklist lists by name, and anything no line names stays with the household. The table below sorts twelve common tasks against the Standard, Deep and add-on lists, so you can see what you will still be doing in the days in between.

What a visit lists and what stays yours

Read each row across. A quoted line is on the checklist for that level. Deep keeps every Standard line and adds its own, and add-ons are booked on top of any level. A blank in the last column means Deep and the add-ons add nothing of their own for that task. Where the Standard column says there is no line and the last column offers nothing either, as with a spill, the task stays with you. Add-on prices are the ones the booking page lists.

Two things the table shows plainly. First, the Standard visit is a room-by-room reset of fixtures, surfaces, dust and floors, and it names no dishes, no laundry and nothing inside an appliance. Second, the only lines that name the stovetop or the bathtub start at Deep, so a household that expects a scrubbed stovetop from a Standard visit is reading a line that is not there. The full lists, word for word, are in what each tier adds.

The Standard list also carries jobs people expect to do themselves. "Neatly Fold & Hang Towels" is a bathroom line, "Wipe Down Door Handles and Light Switches" is on the whole-house list, and "Clean Kitchen Shelves / Hangers" is a kitchen line. These are lines the visit lists by name, which is why the layer below leaves them out.

What stays in your hands between visits

EPA's indoor air quality page puts household upkeep in one sentence: "Routinely vacuum carpets and fabric-covered furniture, dust hard surfaces with a damp cloth, damp-mop floors, and wash household linens." The sentence names no number of days. Set against the table, the visit lists the floors, the upholstered furniture and the dusting lines, and the linens, the dishes and the day-to-day are the household's. A thin layer is enough:

  • Dishes. Washed or loaded the same day is the easy rule, and it keeps the sink from becoming an add-on.
  • Laundry and bedsheets. No Standard or Deep line names either. Changing bedsheets is a Dream Home line, and the Dream Home checklist lists "Laundry Wash & Dry (2 Loads)".
  • Spills. Wipe them when they happen. No checklist line mentions a spill, so a dried-on one is yours until a visit reaches that surface.
  • The floor where people walk. A quick pass at the door and in the kitchen keeps crumbs from piling up before the visit's floor lines get to them.

What stays in your hands is a short list on purpose. For the bathroom, the bathroom checklist separates the household routine from what a visit lists.

When to move to weekly or every 4 weeks

A simple test: after your next visit, note which rows in the table you ended up doing yourself or wishing were done. A row with a quoted line that keeps slipping points to a shorter gap, and that is the weekly plan. A row with no line, such as dishes or laundry, points to an add-on or to your own routine, because no Standard or Deep line names it and a shorter gap does not change that. If the rows with quoted lines hold up without effort, every 4 weeks is the rhythm to price. If the stovetop, the tub or the counters need the scrubbing only Deep lines name, the deep-clean-then-maintain guide shows the order and what it costs across a year.

What each rhythm costs over a year is in the cost-per-year guide, where the every-2-weeks plan carries a 10% discount. What skipping or stretching costs is in the skip, pause or stretch guide.

Before each visit

You do not need to scrub first. The preparation guide says to clear the surfaces you want cleaned and to confirm the tasks in your booking. If dishes, laundry or an appliance interior are not on your level's list, ask before the appointment whether they can be added.

Frequently asked questions

Does a visit do my dishes or laundry?

Not on any Standard or Deep line. Wash Dishes is an add-on at $25 for one sink full, and Laundry Wash & Dry is an add-on at $20 per load. Dream Home is the level that lists laundry and bedsheets.

Should I clean before the cleaner comes?

No. The preparation guide says you do not need to scrub the bathroom first. Clear the surfaces you want cleaned and put away what you would not want touched.

Can I skip one visit on an every-2-weeks plan?

You can skip a single visit and the plan carries on. What it costs depends on how much notice you give, and the skip, pause or stretch guide lays out the notice tiers.
