Nobody here navigates by neighborhood labels. They navigate by Aramingo, and by which side of Lehigh, Tulip, or Castor a block sits on. East toward the river and below Allegheny is the quiet band; above Lehigh the Kensington pull gets stronger, and Castor separates Port Richmond from Bridesburg. Fishtown is about a half-hour walk, and the El drops you at K&A. St. Adalbert anchors the Polish east side, while Czerw's, Byrne's Tavern, and Gaul & Co are the food institutions newcomers get measured against.
Parking is the daily fight — some of the worst in the city, residents say, between tight blocks and a Parking Authority they talk about as if officers appear the moment you throw your hazards on. Parking is covered by the flat price, so it stays our problem rather than yours. The trade is worth it to people who stay: I-95 is minutes away, and the elders on their steps at dusk notice every unfamiliar car.
