Interior Windows Add-On in Philadelphia: What Counts as 6?

You are booking a Philadelphia house cleaning and the add-on list says "Clean Interior Windows (6 Max)." Six what? A front room can have two tall windows, and each can be split into a dozen small pieces of glass. This guide sets Hometress's cap wording side by side, shows how the same house counts three different ways, and says what to do if yours is close to six.

Everything below comes from our booking page, our checklists and our services pages, plus one public source for window vocabulary (Andersen's window and door glossary), all checked on October 31, 2026. It is a counting guide, not a ruling. Our pages use different units for the cap, so we do not pick one for you.

The short answer

  • The add-on: Clean Interior Windows (6 Max) is $60 and adds 35 minutes, as of October 31, 2026. The card includes "Streak-free · sills + glass."
  • The cap: the number is six everywhere we publish it. The unit is not the same everywhere: one page says "panes," another says "windows," and the label and the Move checklist say neither.
  • Why it matters: counted by window, an ordinary house fits under six. Counted by sash or by individual piece of glass, it may not.
  • What to do: count your windows all three ways before you book, and if any count passes six, say so in your arrival notes.

Where the cap appears, in our own words

These selected excerpts show how each page labels the cap. The right-hand column is only whether the page names a unit.

WhereSelected cap wordingNames a unit?
Booking add-on card"Clean Interior Windows (6 Max)" with "Streak-free · sills + glass"No
Services page, add-ons"Glass, sills, and tracks — up to six panes, interiors only."Yes: panes
Recurring cleaning page"Up to 6 windows per visit"Yes: windows
Move checklist"Clean Interior Windows (6 max)"No

So two of our pages name a unit and they name different ones. The Move description says "Inside the oven, fridge, and cabinets, interior windows and doors, baseboards," and the checklist line under the windows line caps interior doors at six too. The interior-windows add-on page carries the current price and minutes.

Three ways to count one house

Andersen, a window maker, publishes a glossary of the terms. Three of its entries decide the count. Double-hung is a "Venting upper and lower sash in a single frame that slide vertically past one another." A sash is the framed glass panel that gives a window its "venting capability." And a light, or lite, is "Individual glass panes within a window sash or door panel." Its entry for True Divided Light adds that these are "Windows and doors in which multiple smaller glass lites are framed in a single sash or panel." Andersen has no stand-alone entry for "pane," so we use its word, "lite."

The arithmetic below is ours, built only from those definitions. Take a made-up house with three double-hung windows. In the first column every sash holds one undivided sheet of glass. In the second, every sash is divided into six lites.

Counted byThree windows, one lite per sashThree windows, six lites per sashAgainst a cap of six
Window (one frame)33Fits both times
Sash (two per double-hung)66Fits both times, at the limit
Lite (each piece of glass)636Fits the first house, not the second

The same three windows are 3, 6 or 36 depending on the unit, so a cap of six stays under, sits exactly at, or blows past the limit. This is arithmetic, not our rule. It shows why a number with no unit next to it cannot be checked against a house.

Set that beside our own pages. In Andersen's vocabulary a pane is a lite, so our services page's "panes" would be the bottom row of the table, and our recurring page's "windows" would be the top row. We are not saying either page means that. We are saying the two words, read plainly, give different counts for the same house.

What is and is not promised

Exterior glass is not included: the services page says "interiors only." If your home has more than six windows, note the count at booking or ask before the visit.

Before you book: count and note

This is our planning, not a Hometress rule, and it is built only from the figures above.

  • Count the windows you want cleaned. Walk the house and count frames.
  • Count the sashes. A double-hung window has two. If you are at or under six by sash, only divided glass can still push you past the cap.
  • Note any divided glass. If a window is split into many small pieces, say so. That is the count that can pass six fast.
  • Past six on any count? Say so. The booking asks "Anything your cleaner should know on arrival?" Put your counts there, and follow the answer you get.
  • Booking a Move clean? It carries the same "(6 max)" line, so the same counting applies.

One made-up household

This household is invented to show the arithmetic, built only from the figures above. It is not a customer.

Rae, five double-hung windows with undivided glass. By window Rae has 5, under the cap of six. By sash Rae has 10, over it. The add-on card does not say which count it uses, so Rae adds Clean Interior Windows at $60 and writes the counts in the arrival notes: five windows, ten sashes, one sheet of glass in each.

When you are ready, start a booking, decide on Clean Interior Windows, and use the arrival notes for your counts; the booking page shows the live total.

Frequently asked questions

How many windows does the interior windows add-on cover?

The cap is six, and it is the same number on every page we checked. The unit is not: our services page says "panes," our recurring cleaning page says "windows," and the booking card and Move checklist name none. Count yours by window, by sash and by lite and flag any count over six.

How much does Clean Interior Windows cost?

$60 for 35 minutes of added time, as of October 31, 2026. The add-on page carries the current price.

Does a Move clean include interior windows?

Its checklist has the line "Clean Interior Windows (6 max)," and the Move description lists "interior windows and doors." The cap on that line has the same unit question as the add-on.

Are exterior windows included?

No. Our services page describes the add-on as "interiors only."
